Art & Life for December 2006Photo of the Month
Oh the humanity of it all…I don't do as much as I would like to in the way of volunteering my time or walking in fundraising marathons, but every year, no matter what, I donate to two organizations that are very close to my heart: The Canadian Cancer Society and ACT, AIDS Committee of Toronto. It's a very small way of trying to do my part. Many people think that culture is something you buy a ticket to. But it surrounds us, it turns a mirror on what we are and what we believe in. It reflects our humanity. During the holiday season, we bring out the best of our human nature before heading back into our workaday life once the hoopla of the festivities has ended. This year when New Year's resolutions come around, I will make my vow to try to do something every month. To lend a hand where I can. To help make someone's day a little bit brighter. To look around my house and see what I don't need that may very well help someone else. Wine of the Month
Cool Sites for Wasting TimeEos Tarot - Even though I don't get the tie-in of Eos to tarot cards, and then the tarot cards to the car, this is a wonderfully fun way to waste a little time. (For all of you who didn't have to suffer through Grade 9 Greek mythology Eos was the goddess of the dawn, and kinda had a reputation for kidnapping men to have her way with them…) Six-Word Memoir Contest - Brevity is an art of its own. Could you summarize your life in six words? Stuff that Disturbs Me
In case you missed it on my blog - this really disturbs me… Holiday Feast For One... I think this has to qualify as the most depressing phrase in the English language. To boot, the poor soul who orders this dismal dinner is presented with enough transfats to stop their heart at any moment (which might be the point of ordering...). The two holiday cookies are decorated in an amateurish way, as if perhaps you and your Mom had made them together... it makes my skin crawl. If you know someone who might be alone this holiday season - invite them over. Please, don't make anyone have to resort to KFC. Stuff I LoveDecember is about giving back, helping out in any small way that you can…so this month I love Destineering - Destineering launched at the very end of November and it was a pleasure to work with Denise Mosawi, Desineering's founder, as well as Kathryn of Zoonini Web Services and Darren of Resolve Design. I had the pleasure of developing the content for the Web as well as print brochures. Destineering combines luxury retreats with top notch coaching, and each retreat features a person who has made a difference in the world, like Dave Gotts of International China Concern, or John Wood of Room to Read. The retreats are designed to provoke creative ways that we can all make a difference, and find our purpose in life. Music Books |
