Art & Life for November 2006Photo of the MonthNovember is...no more leaves on the trees, the first snowfall (that stays!), and...time to get a new pair of winter boots!
Oh, the humanity of it all...One of the things that separates okay or good advertising from great advertising is the ability to key into something that we can all relate to and connect with as human beings. When that happens, it's infectious. We want to share. We feel good passing something along... Recently I've been reading, writing and thinking a lot about viral marketing. My article, "Are Your Clients Catching the Message" can be found online at CanadianBusiness.com. Interviewing Mitch Joel of Twist Image was inspiring! Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, my other source, Ken Schafer - VP-marketing at Tucows Inc., had his contribution cut. However, I've included that section in my blog if you'll like to take a peek. I'm also pleased to announce that one of the best viral stories I know is that of The Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun, created by my client Michael Bungay Stanier of Box of Crayons. It's been seen by tens of thousands of visitors from over 130 countries! And, just last month it was chosen as the Cool Site of the Day for October 28, 2006. Wine of the Month
The Loire Valley is God's gift to wine lovers. Do you have anything to celebrate this month? A birthday, perhaps? (Hello, fellow November birthday celebrationers... you know who you are!) This is a lovely, lovely cuvee... so elegant, with a healthy acidity and bit a citrus crispiness. Yum.
A combination of Tempranillo and Cabernet, with Garnacha and Merlot...but really who cares? It's a grippy red, that, despite 14% alcohol is really balanced. It's a big wine, with great texture and a pretty heady finish. November is such a spartan, austere month - so go ahead - buy yourself a little decadence in a bottle, and find a fire to curl up beside. Cool Sites for Wasting TimeAre You Peeling Bananas Wrong? By Steven Landsburg - Okay, this might fall into the "Too Much Information" category, but it disturbs me that I am constantly accused of eating bananas the wrong way. So, to my accusers I say: Read this! OneDegree.ca - A great read for all things relating to online marketing! Typorganism.com's ASCII-O-Matic - For when you're feelin' old school. Head over to ASCII-O-Matic and get an ASCII version of your logo for those plain text emails... Stuff That Disturbs MePeople who are a bit too literal. Nissan advertises that its Sentra is so luxurious you can live in it. One guy took up the challenge. Stuff I Love
