Art & Life for August 2006

Photo of the Month

August is…the dog days of summer, crimson sunsets, packing in every gorgeous moment before autumn is upon us…

Lake Kushog

Oh, the humanity of it all...

This month's humanity is literature... new buzzwords to be exact.

'cause you gotta stay cool...here's the lingo that's hip:

Bluetooth Fairy: A person who spends the majority of their day in the blinking blue glow of their Bluetooth headsets.

Zidaned: To be removed for doing something butt-headed. (As in "Jean went nuts in the meeting with the client, he shoulda been Zidaned!!")

DBT: Death by Tweakage. You know it...when everyone has to put in their two cents and the end content result is just drab and overworked.

Ringtone Rage: The desire to club your co-worker to death after hearing their annoying "I'm so original" ringtone for the Nth time.

Wombat: Quite simply a Waste Of Money, Bandwidth And Time.

On a different note... last month I promised you questions that you need to ask when choosing a Web designer, so without further ado, here it is in handy PDF format: Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Web Designer

Wine of the Month

Errazuriz Casablanca Fumé Blanc, Chili, 2005

Errazuriz Fume BlancIt's too hot and humid to be messing around with anything complex, which is why Errazuriz Fumé Blanc is the perfect wine for August. It works really well with summertime fare, like grilled tuna for example, and it's easy and uncomplicated. It's beautifully fruity and completely refreshing - a cool, clean and green sauvignon. And, at $14.85, it's a steal. So, without further ado, throw a bottle or two on ice, ring up some friends and invite them over for an impromptu garden party.

3 stars out of 5

Tre Monti Tre Monti Sangiovese, Italy, 2003

Again, summer dictates the wine. If you're tossing some Angus beef on the 'cue and you're looking for something to complement the flavours (a.k.a wash it down with...) this is a wonderfully simple wine with a full, round taste. It'll set you back $20.70, and chez nous we have assigned it:

Cool Sites for Wasting Time

This month's sites …

Internet 96 - It's easy to forget the difference a decade can make…

BaitCar.com - a terrific little site put out by a special auto crime task force in Surrey, BC. The premise is this: A bait car is a vehicle owned by the police and is left in mall parking lots or any other "car-theft-rich location", with the intention of being stolen. Once stolen, the location, speed, and direction of travel of the vehicle is is pinpointed by GPS tracking. Everything that takes place inside the bait car is caught on audio and video, the most interesting of which are then loaded onto the site for all to see.

Stuff That Disturbs Me

It's summer...I'm too busy having fun to be disturbed by much! However, a follow-up from last month's "Stuff That Disturbs Me"… a very astute friend pointed out that goop on the kid's face in the McDonalds ad actually mimicked Ronald McDonald makeup. Branded food smear. Yuck.
